Try to Label Everything

It’s important to stay organized before, during and after your move. That’s why you should keep a permanent marker handy for labeling

Do Not Over Pack Boxes

Distribute the weight in packed boxes evenly. Make sure they are not too heavy for whoever may be lifting them.

Book and Important Papers

Pack books flat to avoid damaging their spines. Avoid filling an entire box full of dense novels. It makes the box too heavy for most people to lift.

Bedding and Linens

We recommend that clothing, curtains and drapes should be cleaned or dry cleaned and stored on hangers. Those items that are too large for a box should be stored in wardrobe style cardboard cartons along with other bedding and linens.

Fragile Items

Wrap all fragile items separately. Pack these items tightly into strong or reinforced boxes, filling any gaps with paper or filler. Mark “fragile” on any boxes containing breakable items. Clearly label all boxes on more than one side so you can easily identify the contents.

Heavy Furniture

Disassemble beds and tables; wrap table legs in paper. If you cannot disassemble a table, place padding on the floor and place the table on its top with the legs pointing up. Stack cartons on dresser tops; use dresser drawers for linens or small, delicate items. Keep upholstery off the floor as it can get ruined. Place a light cotton dust cover, such as bed sheets, on your furniture.

Pack Your Space Carefully

To not only minimize the amount of space you’ll need but to also prevent damage, be sure to pack and stack carefully. To have quicker access to frequently used items, place those items near the door and put your valuables in the rear of the unit. Pack heavy items in small boxes to make them easier to carry and place them on the bottom of stacks to prevent damage.

Insurance

At Skyland East Storage, you can plan on clean and secure storage units. You may carry your own insurance (check your homeowner’s or renter’s policy to see if you are already covered) or apply for insurance coverage from a company that specializes in self-storage insurance. All of our facilities have been approved by Deans & Homer Insurance. You may pick up a brochure at our facility for more information about premiums and coverage. If your home or business insurance covers your storage unit, make sure that your valuable items are listed on the insurance policy.
